"Although many believe that anyone under the age of 21 is prohibited from consuming alcohol in the United States, underage drinking is allowed in 29 states if done on private premises with parental consent "* When you prohibit something like alcohol consumption for so long as 21, the idea of being able to drink begins to consume you more than the alcohol ever could, so when you give a teen or a 21 year old the access to alcohol, their most likely to get addicted and obsessed because they have idolised the idea of consuming alcohol that its more tempting to get drunk. Instead if you educate these teens and let them try it out on their own their most likely to understand the consequences and be less tempted to consume it in excess. "Prohibiting this age group from drinking in bars, restaurants, and other licensed locations causes them to drink in unsupervised places such as fraternity houses or house parties where they may be more prone to binge drinking and other unsafe behavior."* If you make a person wait for so long to try something their going to obsess over it and when the opportunity comes to try it they are obviously more capable of becoming addicted to it. "Lowering MLDA from 21 to 18 would diminish the thrill of breaking the law to get a drink.Normalizing alcohol consumption as something done responsibly in moderation will make drinking alcohol less of a taboo for young adults entering college and the workforce."* "I think 18 is viewed (by most countries) pretty much as a reasonable age limit," said Marjana Martinic, deputy president of the International Center for Alcohol Policies or ICAP.
